Mayor Opens New Imaging Suite at Mexborough

Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust (DBTH) officially opened their brand new £16.8m Imaging Suite at the Community Diagnostics Centre (CDC) this week, at Montagu Hospital in South Yorkshire.

Integrated Health Projects (IHP), who are the construction partners for the new facility, were delighted to be in attendance to mark the occasion, where Doncaster Mayor, Ros Jones CBE, led a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Richard Parker OBE, Chief Executive at DBTH, senior members of the medical imaging team, Trust management, and staff, were also there to witness the opening event.

The new facility houses dedicated imaging and diagnostic equipment including MRI and CT scanners, ultrasound facilities, and a welcoming new reception, and expands on the CDC, which opened in 2024.

The purpose-built facility will enable the Trust to undertake an additional 80,000 diagnostic appointments for patients in Mexborough and the wider South Yorkshire area, annually, complementing the services provided at the Trust’s other hospitals in Doncaster and Bassetlaw.

The new imaging suite features enhanced levels of insulation and high efficiency heating, ventilation, and air conditioning plant, to minimise energy demand and carbon emissions. It is serviced by a new electrical substation, built as part of the project. Existing staff and visitor car parking areas have been rationalised, and new staff car parking also provided.

This latest project in the Trust’s wider £100m programme of improvements across its estate, was handed over by IHP to the Trust, exactly one year to the day from construction starting on site.

Speaking at the event, the Mayor said: “The imaging suite is a fantastic addition to our local healthcare services. I am proud to be part of today’s opening ceremony and look forward to seeing the positive difference it will make for people within our communities.”

Richard Parker OBE, Chief Executive at DBTH, said: “The Imaging Suite is a prime example of how we are transforming healthcare by providing care in the best environment for patients.

VINCI Building’s Contracts Manager, Adrian Leigh, who was there at the opening, added: “It’s an honour to have been involved in delivering this new facility for the people of Mexborough and wider community, and to be here today to celebrate its official opening. IHP has enjoyed a long and successful working relationship with Doncaster and Bassetlaw Trust and we look forward to continuing this partnership as we deliver further improvements together, around the estate.”

IHP is the joint venture between VINCI Building and Sir Robert McAlpine.
